I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in San Francisco. I provide therapy for individuals, couples, and adolescents. My counseling expertise includes: working with people with relational difficulties both at home and at work, substance use issues, issues around self harm, anxiety, depression, dealing with and being an adolescent, issues around long term chronic illness, anger management and working with those who have multiple diagnoses.
In couple therapy, I work with clients who have more traditional (same sex and opposite sex) relationships as well as those couples who have more alternative lifestyles and practices. In family therapy, I work with all family constellations. I have extensive experience with blended families. I help couples and families develop communication tools to deepen their relationships.
I bring compassion, humor, warmth and experience to my work with individuals, couples and families. I work from a belief that personal and social history informs peoples' current issues and that discovering those connections cultivates insight and produces change. I use cognitive-behavioral interventions in helping clients to understand and change their negative beliefs. My style is warm and supportive as well as direct and authentic. I am well versed in DBT and help clients to recognize and regulate their emotional and cognitive responses. . I work with grief and loss, with regard to personal health issues or those of a loved one. I have extensive experience working with substance use and abuse issues and, In many instances, I use harm reduction when working with substance users. I am passionate about the work I do. I am effective in helping people make change in their lives.
I also am a manager and clinical supervisor in, and consult with , community programs. I provide trainings on harm reduction, anger management and diversity in an effort towards social justice. In addition, I bring experience from my background in the business world.
I work as a consultant for therapists working with difficult clients who need help with treatment planning, understanding and countertransference issues.
In the community, I provide training, clinical supervision and consultation to program directors and staff. My experience as a manager, coupled with my psychotherapy experience, help bring change to non-profit organizations.
